Journey to a Dream

This entry will be about my rumblings in life.

Way back when I was still in high school, some people really like my doodles and some of them were not very fond of them. Before, I did not know how to accept being criticized and I just let people just bring me down.

This are my old drawings.
These are my old drawings.

Even though I really want to take up Fine Arts, I didn’t because I let my mind to be poisoned to think that there is no future in art. I stopped being a dreamer and abandoned my ‘reverie’ of earning a living thru my drawings. Believing that my aspiration was unattainable, I then hated drawing and eventually just stopped creating something out of nothing.

It was a painful journey, but when I went to college, my confidence was boosted up by my friends. They believed that I have a talent; hence, it inspired me to express myself more; you see, I was a very shy lass because I was used to being dragged down by people. However, that all changed! I was motivated by different artists and also by individuals, who surrounded me with positive vibes.

Keane really inspires me, for the reason that it took them 8 years before they got their big break! In addition, I just love their poetic and euphonic music <3

Tite Kubo was actually the one who inspired me to draw again. I really owe it to this guy.

I then started to draw again, to write, to direct, to be creative, to believe, and to dream. I tried my best to improve my skills. Now, those who were skeptical before, reckons that my drawings are good and support me in achieving my dreams; however, there are still some who are doubtful. But I’m not that pessimistic  anymore.

(From left to right) Franz Kafka, O. Henry, Natsume Souseki, and Nick Joaquin are just some of the writers that stimulate my hand to also write. I wish I could be a great writer like them :)

ART IS MY SOUL, so I will keep on drawing and writing (and maybe singing 😛 ) because those are the things that keep my heart ecstatically happy!

The road to our goals is bumpy and rocky. Patience, perseverance, and passion are the 3 P’s that you need to carry with you in your journey. Have a safe trip!

SLEEPY HOLLOW Turned Me Into a SLEEPYHEAD

Hello again my dear readers!

For a couple of months, I bombarded you with a lot of my ‘shipping’ thoughts and fanarts of We Got Married Global’s HONGMINA. I apologize to HongMina shippers because I haven’t posted entries about our Daramji couple anymore. I just became super preoccupied with my new job.

Anyways, this is going to be my first entry for 2014 and it is going to be about my latest addiction, SLEEPY HOLLOW!

sleepy-hollow-title

I’m actually a big TIM BURTON fan and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ (the movie) was the one who turned me into his fan. I really really love the movie, so when I first heard they are going to turn it into a series, I just said, “Oh no, another unoriginal idea that might BUTCHER one of my fave movies.” You can’t blame me for being skeptical because most of the shows and movies, in the US (also in the Phil), are just remaking old and successful concepts; so when the Sleepy Hollow series came out, I just flatly IGNORED it.

A few months have passed by, I got addicted with WGMG and became an active Daramji Del, got busy with my new career, and then I got bored.  I’ve watched a couple of movies and listen to all sorts of music to keep my mind inspired and creative, but, NOTHING CLICKED.  However, I remembered an article in YAHOO (thank you for writing something RELEVANT) about the TV flops and hits of 2013, in which SLEEPY HOLLOW was mentioned being one of the hot new series.

Last December 2013, during my Xmas and New Year vacation, I decided to watch the first adventure of Mr. Ichabod Crane and ‘Leftenant’ Abigail Mills, AND I WAS IMMEDIATELY HOOKED! I started watching it around 9:00 pm and I finished it around 7:00 am! My PANDA eyes came back, but I didn’t mind being a SLEEPYHEAD! I just couldn’t stop talking, thinking, and blogging (on my Tumblr) SLEEPY HOLLOW! I even watch AFTERBUZZ on YouTube just to satisfy my SLEEPY CRAVING!

PS. I rarely listen to podcasts, but I came to love AFTERBUZZ thru Sleepy Hollow   ^^

Great job Matt, Jacque and Stephen!

***

So, anyways, here are the things why I love Sleepy Hollow.

1. The ‘silly moments’ are very witty. My ultimate fave one is when Ichabod had a heart to heart talk with ‘Yolanda. For me, it’s one of the  scenes in Sleepy Hollow that really dig a grave in my memory. It’s very surprising and hilarious! It’s very interesting to watch how Ichabod reacts to the wonders of the 21st century.

2. Well written script. I just love the lines that each character says. It’s very quotable. He he he…

Ichabod found out that the water he drank on the lake (ep 1) is defiled.
Ichabod found out that the water he drank on the lake (ep 1) is defiled.

3. The chemistry between ICHABBIE is astounding! I’m officially shipping this ship! I don’t really in-your-face-love story, I like to see how 2 characters, who are not mutually attracted, to slowly open up and trust each other. Yeah, I know that ship is not CANON but I can’t help to  LOVE IT! I do hope it will be canon 😛

In Ep 6, Crane says goodbye to Abbie
In Ep 6, Crane says goodbye to Abbie

I just love how they care about each other, but you also know it’s not ‘love love’ because our Mr. Time traveler is still deeply in love with his wife. Ichabod is not a douche, and like what Orlando Jones said, “Crane is a man of principle.” Given this reason, I will patiently wait for  Ichabbie 😛

Moreover, the creators of Sleepy Hollow like to tease the audience for giving these cute Ichabbie moments; they themselves can’t even deny the electrifying chemistry between Beharie and Mison! I mean, those 2 are just FREAKING LOOKING at each other, but it’s already making the fangirls SQUEEL! I love their simple, yet, sweet moments.

Making-out is so overrated.  If you can make people SHIP, without even showing-off super smoochie scenes, well bro, you have found your perfect pair.

O-oh, looks like Mrs. Crane is a bit jealous.
O-oh, looks like Mrs. Crane is a bit jealous.

4. It’s very informative. I never really like history, but watching Sleepy Hollow engaged me to be interested in what happened in the past; moreover, the topic about witches, demons, and unsolved cases, such as Virginia White, are quite intriguing to know.

Thomas came from the lost colony Roanoke.

5. Wonderful cast.

6. Tom Mison is the perfect Ichabod. His striking looks and British accent just melt my heart.

 7. Abbie Mills is no damsel in distress. She does not need to rely on anyone to get her job done. And despite her tough exterior, she has a soft heart.

The gorgeous Nicole Beharie

8. Straight forward storytelling. I never get bored with watching every episode of Sleepy Hollow because it’s condensed and fast paced.

9. Great wardrobe! I know many of you want to see Ichabod change his clothes, I do too, but, it’s already an iconic look. I’m afraid if he alters his looks, it would just feel weird. Do you guys remember the show FELICITY? When the actress changed her signature hairstyle, many said that the show kind of lost its charming point.

10. It is not a copycat of Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. If people ask me which do I think is better, I could not possibly answer it because they are very different from each other. Watch them both and you’ll know what I mean.

So what do you guys think? What turned you into a SLEEPYHEAD?

Another Tragedy

Hello my dear readers!

You guys have probably heard of the typhoon Haiyan, which is said to be the strongest tropical cyclone. Typhoon Haiyan is also known as ‘Yolanda’ in the Philippines.

I decided to write an entry about this incident because my country has been experiencing a lot of natural disasters, which really made me upset. In September 2013, my hometown, Olongapo, was hit by a storm that almost drowned all of its houses and establishments. Then, October came and another tragedy took place in my country; an earthquake shook the whole Central Visayas. It was reported that Bohol, as well as Cebu, where the badly affected areas.

The Philippines has not yet recovered from the previous disaster; however, another calamity was given to us. According to the reports, the lives of more than 400 people were already taken away by Yolanda.

Every year, my country experiences natural calamities, particularly from typhoons. Despite of that Filipinos are known to be very optimistic individuals. Sometimes we can be a bit stubborn and unorganized, but we still have ‘Bayanihan’ in our blood. We help each other out through challenging and heartrending times.

Many people have lost their love ones and properties, and in addition, they are lacking in food and water.

If you would like to help out or make contributions, you could go to this site. http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate

Beside from donations, prayers and moral support are also deeply appreciated.

🙂

Before, I really felt unfortunate after experiencing the flood that happened last September; however, after seeing what happened to the victims of the earthquake and Yolanda, I realized my family and I were actually very lucky.

We don’t have much money but we want to help out the victims.  My sister suggested that we should give the clothes that we don’t use anymore. As soon as we had woken up this morning, we packed up the clothes we don’t wear in two big sacks.

I want to thank all the people who helped the Philippines. It’s so wonderful to see that even children are making an effort to gather donations for the victims.

Playlist: Songs of HOPE (きぼうのうた)

Music, just like drawing, is like air for me. The music, which I listen too, depends on my mood. When I’m feeling sad, I listen to mellow songs. When I want to feel refreshed, I listen to songs that make me relax. When creative ideas are just bursting out of my brains, I listen to experimental or artsy music.

Just like in the movie “What’s Your Number?” Anna Faris’ character said, “Looking at somebody’s playlist is like reading their diary.” The music that you listen to pretty much describes what kind of person you are.

I’m a person who usually looks at the bright side. Even when everything is turning sour, I want to be optimistic as much as possible, because being negative just makes everything worse, and it could also make you look ugly. xD So today, I will give you the songs which I usually listen to whenever I need a bit of hope or encouragement.

I hope you guys like this list. This is in random order.

***

Glamorous Sky

By: Mika Nakashima

Okay this song has a version from Vamps and also from Girugasmesh. However, I love Mika-san’s version because I just love her voice and I could easily sing along with it.

“Ano yume wo narabete, futari aruita GLAMOROUS DAYS,” according to lyricsmania , it means

“In order to be in line for our dreams, we walk in these GLAMOROUS DAYS,” in English. This is actually my favorite line from this song.

***

Solanin

By: Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Some of you, who have heard this song and read its lyrics, might say “it’s a break-up song.” Well, at first glance it might seem a song for an ex-lover; however, upon watching and reading the manga, Solanin, my opinion changed. It’s actually a song about saying goodbye to your ‘old you’ and how to survive without relying to your past self.

***

Beat It

By: FT Island

A Japanese song sang by a Korean band. I just love their Japanese songs because it has a more ‘rock feeling’ compared to their Korean songs. Anyways, this song has an upbeat melody that makes you want to jump up and down and sing its liberating lyrics.

“Nanimo osorezuni (Just Fly away)” or “Without fearing anything, just FLY AWAY,” in English. I love that line and I love singing this part, “I’m really FLYING.”

***

Fly

By: Jealkb

This is another song with ‘FLY’ in its lyrics. xD I feel like I’m running whenever I listen to this song, and its smooth rhythm feels uplifting that makes you think that it’s okay to chase your dreams.

“You’ve got to SPREAD your wings and look for the wind. You should, one day, ASK for a MIRACLE”

***

Leaving So Soon

By: Keane

I’ve experienced a lot discouragement from different kinds of people, even my family and friends, sometimes, don’t have faith in me. I constantly, always, need to work hard just to prove that I could do something. There are times that your patience bubble is crying to be blown up to pieces; however, you need to keep your cool because when you are too emotional, you get irrational.

Hence, I usually sing this song  when I’m not in the mood to be kind. I sing it as if I’m singing to the person who is trying to pull me down.

***

Huwag ka nang Umiyak

By: Sugarfree

Sugarfree is one of my favorite OPM bands, sadly they already disbanded.

Whenever I hear this song while I’m feeling down, I feel like this song is telling me, “Everything will be fine. You have someone to hold onto.” Then, a flashback will come rushing to my brain, memories of the times my friends and family have supported me.

By the way, ‘Huwag ka nang Umiyak,’ means ‘Don’t Cry Anymore.’ It’s a song about giving someone an assurance that you are by their side no matter what happens.

***

Umaaraw, Umuulan

By: Rivermaya

This is the first song of Rivermaya that I liked. I really like the Rico Blanco era and I miss it. When Rico left, Rivermaya wasn’t Rivermaya anymore.

Alright, let’s go back to our main purpose!

When I first listened to this song, I was really depressed, and hearing its lyrics just made me cry. It really hit me and it made me pull myself together.

I don’t know if it’s the correct translation but ‘Umaaraw, Umuulan’ means ‘Shinning, Raining.’  I’m not really good at translating Tagalog into English. xD However, I will try to translate the whole lyrics because it’s very special to me.

“Umaaraw Umuulan”

Hindi mo maintindihan  (You don’t understand)

Kung ba’t ikaw ang napapagtripan  (Why you’re the one )

Ng halik ng kamalasan  (Kissed by bad luck)

Ginapang mong marahan ang hagdanan (You crawled slowly the stairs)

Para lamang makidlatan  (Just to get hit by lightning)

Sa kaitaas-taasan, ngunit  (At the top, but)
Kaibigan  (Friend)

Huwag kang magpapasindak  (Don’t be afraid)
Kaibigan,  (Friend)

Easy lang sa iyak  (Don’t cry too much  or Take it easy when you cry)

Dahil wala ring mangyayari (Nothing is going to happen)

Tayo’y walang mapapala (We won’t get anything)

Wag mong pigilan ang pagbuhos ng ulan  (Don’t stop the rain from pouring)

May panahon para maging hari (There is a time to be a king)

May panahon para madapa (There is a time to fall)

Dahil ang buhay natin ay sadyang ganyan  (Because our life is just like that)

Umaaraw, umuulan  (Shinning, Raining)

Ang buhay ay sadyang ganyan  (Our life is just like that)

Umaaraw, umuulan (Shinning, Raining)

Wag kang maawa sa iyong sarili  (Don’t feel sorry for yourself)

Isipin na wala ka nang silbi (Thinking that you are worthless)

San’ dambuhalang kalokohan  (It’s such a big bullcrap)

Bukas sisikat ding muli ang araw  (Tomorrow the sun will shine again)

Ngunit para lang sa may tiyagang  (But only for the ones who are patient)

Maghintay (to wait)

Kaibigan,  (Friend)

Wag kang magpapatalo  (Don’t let yourself lose)

Kaibigan, (Friend)

Itaas ang noo (Hold your head up high)

Music really takes away my stress. How about you? What songs do you listen to in order to describe your current mood?

Oh my BOOTS!

There’s a point in every girl’s life that she will fall in love with shoes.

When I was a kid, I never really got the things I want. My parents did not buy clothes or shoes that I like. The garments that they bought for me was according to their preference and budget. In short, my childhood wardrobe was boring and I only owned a few pairs of shoes, in which, some of them were my sister’s hand-me downs. I did not complain about it because I understood our situation. We are just an average family with tight resources. Because of those circumstances, I became a cheapskate and my love for clothes and shoes was born.

I love dressing up but there are times that I’m quite lazy to sort out my attire; however, I don’t want to be dull. For me, fashion is an art and we use it to express our emotions and personality. I’m a person who is always seeking new ways to convey my creativity in different mediums, and ‘fashion’ is just one of those methods; however, I can’t deny that from time to time, the ART of PROCRASTINATION outwits my system. As a result, whenever I want to be in style but too lazy to dress-up, wearing my BOOTS comes in handy.

My red Dr. Martens

I don’t know but there is something about boots that makes your whole attire ‘edgy.’ Even if you would just wear a shirt and jeans, your outfit would definitely look COOL when you add boots.

I LOVE collecting shoes, from boots to sneakers and flats; I buy it as long as it will help me spice up my wardrobe. I also wear high-heals, even though I don’t use them that much because they freaking KILL my feet; I only wear them on special occasions.

My BOOTS collection! I threw out 4 pairs already because of the flood ><

I have a lot of shoes but my favorite is my PRECIOUS boots! It’s very comfortable and fashionable. I love them so much that they are the usual shoes that I draw. xD

If you want an effortless fashion, I recommend you to buy a pair of boots to make your look more enthralling. However, you must also have confidence to carry out your own STYLE.

Bloody FLOOD!

Okay, I know this post might be late and it does not have to do anything about ART or WGMG; however, this is an event that damaged my plans and almost took away half of my soul: the WORST FLOOD that hit my hometown, OLONGAPO.

http://www.interaksyon.com/article/71289/olongapo-reels-from-worst-flooding-ever

On my quest to look for a better career, I went to Manila and then stayed in Guadalupe with my friends. After a week of searching for a new work, I decided to go home; however, on September 23, 2013, because of the continuous rainfall, Olongapo was swallowed by the flood, and hence my trip to go home was delayed.

Upon knowing what happened to Olongapo, I immediately go online on my mobile to see the news. I already know that Olongapo is usually visited by flood whenever a heavy downpour occurs (thanks to our WONDERFUL government); on the other hand,  I was stunned by the videos and pictures uploaded on Facebook!  Olongapenos have never experienced a flood that was enough to drown a five-foot tall person.

I called my mum to see if they are doing alright. My brother was the one who answered the phone; he then told me that our house and some of our belongings were eaten by the flood. He also mentioned me that he wasn’t able to save some of my belongings, and my guitar was one of them.

This is my friend's bass guitar. This was the one that got drowned, not my acoustic guitar.
This is my friend’s bass guitar. This was the one that got drowned, not my acoustic guitar.

I felt like my heart just fell from my buttocks. I just couldn’t help myself but cry. I also felt guilty because I wasn’t there to help my family. I talked to some of my friends to keep myself calm and sane.

This is our dog Krauser. He was the one who woke up my mum, on the day the big flood happened. He pretended that he was vomiting to force my mum to get out from her bed. Thankfully, he succeeded! He made my mum worried because she taught he was really sick; however, she soon found out that it was all an act. It was an act to alarm her that the water was already at our door step.

He made my mum worried because she taught he was really sick; however, she soon found out that it was all an act. It was an act to alarm her that the water was already at our door step.

On Wednesday, 25th of September, I could finally go home. While I was on the road, listening to FT Island’s Compass, I couldn’t help but cry a bit. I felt very sad and scared, scared that my artworks, art materials, computer, clothes, shoes and other things were already covered in mud.

My brother's medical books.

When I got home, my house was in a mess. Our refrigerator was not saved and all the plugs in the house were wet. We couldn’t use it! The only plugs that we could use were the ones placed in my room and the bathroom because the flood did not reach them.

My room still had some mud on the floor.  My desk where my computer is placed and where I sometimes draw, did not escaped the muddy situation.

This is my computer desk and this is where I also draw and write.
This is my computer desk and this is where I also draw and write.

I then went to my aunt’s house, where most of our things where placed; her house has a second floor so whenever we encountered a flood, we evacuate in her pad. As I got to her house, I immediately looked for my things.  I almost cried when I found my COPIC markers and my artworks. My sketchbooks were drenched; however, thankfully, I used waterproof ink and pencil so they weren’t that damaged. My computer was also there but I haven’t tried it out. I still don’t know if it’s working. I’m afraid to test it.

I asked my brother about what happened, and he just told me that it seemed like a nightmare that he wants to forget. I didn’t pester him anymore because he was so upset about what happened, who could blame him.

After my chit-chat with my brother, I then felt tired, caused by my 3 and half hours journey. Thus, I just slept in my mother’s bed, which was covered in plastic, then a comforter.
